About Water

Tree by the waterWhere Does Our Water Come From?
For over 40 years, the Fair Oaks Water District has purchased treated surface water from the respected San Juan Water District. The source of San Juan’s surface water supply is one of California’s most prized, safe and clear natural water resources – the American River. This wholesale water that is treated by the San Juan Water District before being transported to the Fair Oaks Water District (FOWD) accounts for approximately 95 percent of FOWD’s total water supply.  The remaining 5 percent of our total water supply is regional groundwater.

Quality, Plus!
The Fair Oaks Water District is committed to outstanding customer service — and providing excellent water quality! We’re proud to say our water continuously meets or exceed all state and federal drinking water standards. As our annual water quality report demonstrates, the Fair Oaks Water District provides some of the highest quality drinking water in California to its customers!

Our Present — And Future — Water Supply
In the last decade, our water use averaged 352 gallons per person, per day, as compared to the national average of 225 gallons. However, given Fair Oaks Water District’s investment in water conservation efforts and public awareness programs, the District hopes to see a decline in our per capita water usage.

Still, we face the likelihood of future droughts and the increased needs of our ever-growing population. Therefore, it remains critical that everyone in our community use our water as efficiently as possible. We must protect our precious and finite water supply, as we continue to protect its quality.
